About Us
Ausred Genetics is very much a family owned and operated business. It has been a registered import and publishing company since 1985. It’s original founder was Bill Thompson who instigated the initial imports of various red breeds from Europe into Australia over 20 years ago. These breeds were the Swedish Red, Norwegian Red, Danish Red, German Red Angler, the Finnish Ayrshire and the French Rouge Flamande . Our company acts as the agents for our overseas suppliers and Ausred worked with various marketing partners to distribute and market the product in Australia. From the mid 80’s to 1995 the product was distributed out of Wacol AB in Queensland and when the merger occurred between VAB and Wacol to become Genetics Australia the product was then distributed from Genetics Australia in Victoria.
Upon Bill’s passing in 1989, the company has been run by his daughter Karen Moroney for the past 18 years. Karen and her husband Wayne also run a successful dairy farming operation in the lush Mitta Valley in North East Victoria and milk around 210 Aussie Red cows.
In December 2007, Ausred Genetics terminated its agreement with Genetics Australia for marketing and took the logical step of becoming the wholesale distributor of the products that it represents. This expansion of our business has been an exciting change for us as we look to focus on the uniqueness of the products that we represent. Karen is also the Editor and Publisher of the highly respected and internationally circulated Red Cow International Magazine.
The magazine presents the various red breeds of cattle from around the world and is a great source of current information on both the breeds and what is happening not only in Australia on the “red scene” but also on the international stage.
